A new North Carolina neighborhood will require residents to fly the US flag. Developer Brock Fankhauser said the community isn't aligned with a political party, local media reported. Homeowners in the new 1776 Gastonia neighborhood, named after its affinity for the country's founding and its locale in Gastonia, North Carolina, will be required to display the American flag in front of their property. "We're handling the American flag like an architectural element," Fankhauser said, per WCNC. The movement is not aligned with any political party, Fankhauser said.

Controllers saw that the nose landing gear doors were open, but the gear hadn't descended and the pilots landed the plane without the nose gear. A Chick-fil-A customer in North Carolina said her daughter's order slip contained a racial slur. A Facebook post regarding the incident has gone viral, with more than 660 comments. The meal, she said, was returned with a racial slur on the order slip attached to the cup and the takeout bag. Some supported Jackson and her daughter and accused Chick-fil-A of supporting a culture of bigotry. In 2018, Taco Bell reportedly fired a cashier who was accused of writing a racial slur on a customer's receipt in Pennsylvania.

The US military shot down a suspected Chines spy balloon on Saturday, February 4, 2023. A meteorologist captured a video of jets circling the balloon before shooting it down. Senior defense officials said that an F-22 jet from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia shot the balloon with a single shot, according to Fox News. Three people died Monday in a construction site accident near a business district in Charlotte, North Carolina, officials said. Charlotte Fire Department Captain Jackie Gilmore told reporters at the scene that scaffolding had collapsed at the construction site shortly after 9 a.m. Two other construction workers were taken to a hospital for evaluation. All work at the construction site was stopped until Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigators could evaluate. The construction workers fell approximately 70 feet, according to NBC affiliate WCNC. Queen City News of Charlotte reported that the construction site where the accident occurred is being developed as a luxury senior living community, but the Houston-based developer behind the project, Bridgewood Property Company, said the accident occurred at a neighboring address.

Police arrested a North Carolina man after a four-year-old boy died of a gun shot wound on Wednesday, NBC affiliate WCNC of Charlotte reported. Authorities responded to the scene on Charleston Place, in southeast Charlotte, on Wednesday around 7:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Emergency medical personnel transported the boy to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. WCNCPolice earlier said they were investigating the incident after walking back the department’s initial determination that the boy’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted, WCNC reported. NBC News could not immediately reach the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for comment.
